https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/24/us/anti-asian-bias-biden-covid-19-origin-report/index.html

BEIJING: The question on Quora is a good one since it speaks directly to me. I have lived and worked in Beijing for over 11 years and I have enjoyed good and bad times here.

Moving on to a part of the question: Is it dangerous to be pro-American in China? For me, pro-Americanism in China is about setting a good example and acting as a great role model for others, which leaves a good impression about the US on others.

Nonetheless, I have met a number of Americans in China and it’s easy to figure out who will stay for the long term and who will burn out, departing from the nation feeling much rage and hate, along with a burning zeal to get revenge.

The Americans who stay here are tolerant, patient and hold a balanced outlook. They remind themselves constantly, they are visitors and the Chinese are their hosts so they should avoid unnecessary conflicts.

They did not come to China with a missionary zeal to change the Chinese according to their standards and specifications.

They are not “baizuo” - white leftists who promote ‘Woke’ values and click on their ‘cancel culture’ buttons when the Chinese disagree with their socially liberal viewpoints.

Meanwhile, being pro-American is not about waking up every morning to ‘Pledge Allegiance to the Flag’ or to boast of one’s homeland at all times of the day and night.

For me, it’s just about showing the better side of the Americans. I had also met a few Americans in China who were shallow, lazy, drunkards and woman chasers.

These Americans are common in the USA, especially on college campuses nationwide, but when they come to China, they look awkward, such as perpetual children refusing to grow up. They do not last long in China as well.

In other instances, I heard about Americans who came to China to produce videos of their lives in China and in the first few years they generated big revenues streams and they seemed to be happy in the country.

But they turned against China and are producing videos complaining about the country.

They claim the Chinese have become more nationalistic, but there could be a business motive behind their actions for producing anti-China videos.

They are ordinary people who got lucky capturing a large audience of viewers in China but like most pop culture trends, what is hip today can be old news tomorrow. Consequently, the Chinese just lost interest in them.

Hence, they resort to desperate publicity-seeking tactics to capture a new audience to generate more money from YouTube or paid advertisers.

They flip the script, going anti-China hoping they can be popular with Chinese or Korean viewers.

However, let’s also address the pro-Chinese who move to the US. Are they in danger? As law-abiding visitors, they can enjoy relative peace, but the rising crime rates in the country have placed them at higher risk.

The US has witnessed an upsurge of hate crimes against the Chinese, since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. We can read more about it from CNN. The link is here:

Asian American leaders fear Covid-19 origin report could fuel more bigotry and violence
Asian American leaders are concerned that a report on the origins of the Covid-19 virus expected to be released this week by the Biden administration will be used to "legitimize racist language" and lead to more anti-Asian violence across the country.
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/08/24/us/anti-asian-bias-biden-covid-19-origin-report/index.html
As reported by CNN:

“Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, thousands of people in the United States have been victims of anti-Asian incidents, from verbal abuse to physical attacks. More than a year later, Asian American advocates fear that even more women, children and seniors will be at risk as the nation slowly returns to schools, workplaces and outdoor activities this fall.

For the past three months, US intelligence agencies have been poring over data and raw intelligence after President Joe Biden ordered a 90-day investigation into how the Covid-19 virus originated, including the possibility that it emerged from a lab accident. The deadline for the report is up this week.”

Sad to see many Chinese get mistreated in the USA and one hopes people can be more tolerant of different cultures and viewpoints.
